Baby Surprise Jacket!

Nothing but knit! A few double decreases here, invisible increases there, and a buttonhole or two. This funny looking object seams up into a great looking baby jacket. Experience the unique and surprising construction while knitting and seaming this project under the guidance of an expert.

Beginning Lace

Be a part of the tradition of lace knitting, learn the basics, from the humble yarn over to slanted and centered decreases. Cast On & Bind Off Techniques I

The right cast on can make a difference to the ease and success of your project, each method has it's own unique benefit. This class will cover the e-wrap, knit on, cable, long tail and crochet cast ons, as well as the standard, suspended, stretchy and double crochet bind offs.

Cast On & Bind Off Techniques II

Build upon your tool kit of cast on and bind off techniques and learn methods that give your knitting wonderfully polished edges. This class will cover the invisible, tubular, Turkish, provisional crochet cast ons as well as the cable cast on for 1x1 rib. The class will also cover invisible and decorative bind offs.

Crochet 101

Learn to create with only a hook and a ball of yarn. This class will include the basic stitches plus granny squares, pattern reading and more.

Crochet Amigurumi

Pronounced: ä-mē-gü-rü-mē
Japanese for a crocheted or knitted shape; it describes the craft of crocheting 3-D toys, dolls and objects.

Create your own creatures for yourself or your favorite little ones. You will learn tips and secrets for making a variety of 3-D shapes. You can mix and match these pieces to build your own toys dolls and objects. Learn the difference between working in a spiral or in the round and how to document your own patterns. Whether you have made Amigurumi before or not, you will discover many new creative possibilities. This is a skills class, not a finished project class. Basic crochet knowledge needed (chain and single crochet).

  • Design to Fit

    This course will help you evaluate what kinds of knit items look best on YOU. You'll learn how to measure yourself. We'll knit swatches to get gauge and find the ideal fabric for your project. You will design your prototype set-in sleeve sweater and calculate stitch requirements including armhole and neck shaping. Numerous knitting and finishing techniques will be discussed. Students will be encouraged to actively participate with ideas and experiences. Please understand that will not complete a sweater in four sessions!
    Note: This class is intended for knitters who have already tackled their first sweater project.

    Supplies: Bring a measuring tape (not ruler) to our first class. We will be taking our body measurements and a "flexible device" (metal or cloth tape) is necessary. Also bring notebook size paper for copying diagram and writing measurements.

    Homework:
    • Bring to class an example of ready-made and/or hand knit sweater that looks good on you and one that could fit you better.
    • Look through catalogs, magazines and knitting books for sweaters that inspire you. Bring at least 3 different pictures to class.

    Entrelac Scarf

    Come and make a reversible entrelac scarf in two easy sessions. Learn this stunning technique with professional help and explicit, step-by-step instructions, and gain the confidence to knit those beautiful enrelac patterns on your own.

    Ergonomics for Safe Fiber Work

    Sure, "Just one more row", but be sure you aren't putting yourself at risk for a repetitive strain injury! In this class you'll learn how repetitive strain injuries occur, prevention techniques, and how to analyze your risk factors for all your fiber hobbies. This class is for new and experienced fiber lovers.

    Fair Isle

    This class will help you take your first steps into the world of color work. Learn the fundamental techniques and essential tips to successfully master this advanced skill.

    Gloves Galore

    Learn to make gloves and mittens – with fingers, partial fingers, or completely fingerless. Featuring the amazing asymmetric gusset! Knit in the round using two circulars or the magic loop technique! We'll discuss the techniques used to make many types of hand-coverings using any gauge yarn and to fit any size hand.

    Hats 101

    Put a lid on it! Keep your head warm—knit your first hat in 2 easy sessions. We'll teach you the techniques to make a hat any size you want using any yarn you want!

    Intarsia

    Learn to add a world of color to your knitting! Intarsia is a color work technique with several uses. Create bold vertical stripes. Knit a colored motif into the center of your sweater. Make beautiful patchwork fabric, like Kaffe Fasset's Tumbling Blocks.

    Knitting 101

    Knit Amigurumi

    Pronounced: ä-mē-gü-rü-mē

    Learn how to make knitted Amigurumi shapes. Once you learn how to knit seamless 3D pieces (knitted sculpture) the possibilities are huge! This is a "skills" class not a "finished project" class. I'll teach you how to knit a ball shape, how to do a Turkish Cast On, how to make Japanese short rows and more.

    Knit Ornaments

    Knit colorful ornaments for the hilidays for everyone on your gift list. This is a project class. You'll make a seamless ball, a jog-less striped tube, and a wired piece for shaping.

    Machine Knit a Shibori Scarf

    Discover the speed and wonders of machine knitting, and make a unique, designer, felted scarf. Learn the basics of machine knitting using our LK-150 knitting machines. Then take it a step further and learn the secrets behind the intriguing shibori technique.

    Needle Felting

    Come discover this simple and charming method of surface design. This felting technique does not use any water. With a special felting needle, you can apply both wool roving and yarn, to felt and other woven fabrics.
    There is an additional $5 materials fee paid to the instructor.

    Oops, it's a Mistake!

    Does your knitting look funny? Tired of starting over? Learn the perfect tricks for correcting knitted errors in one quick session. We'll cover dropped stitches, headache-free ripping back, unwanted holes and more! Know how to knit and purl and we will take it from there. All levels welcome.

    Sock it to Me!

    Cold feet? Not after this class! Socks are fun and easy - knit your first pair from cuff to toe with 2 circular needles. In class we'll make a sort of mutant sock to learn the basic principles of sock construction. Outside of class, as homework, if you feel like it, make a full-size sock using the skills you learn in class. We'll also discuss how to design your own sock to get a custom fit.

    Spinning

    Make your own yarn! Learn to card wool on hand carders, then spin up your prepared wool on a drop spindle. Practice wool included in class cost and hand carders provided for in-class use.

    Start with Finishing

    Bring your projects to the next level. Professional looking details make all the difference. Learn cast-on, bind-off pairing, mirrored and fully fashioned increases and decreases, seaming, blocking, and more.

    • Bring basic knitting supplies and light colored, worsted weight yarn with needles appropriate for yarn to the first class. Homework will be given for subsequent weeks during class.

    Toe-Up Socks

    Learn to make socks starting at the toe. A great follow-up to our Sock it to Me class. In this class you'll flip things around and start at the toe, using the short-row toe technique. Why knit from the toe? It's great when you have a finite amount of yarn and you don't know how far it will go. You can knit until you run out! Also, why not learn? It's fun!
    Prerequisite skills: Equivalent to completing Sock it to Me

    Top Down Raglan Sweater

    Knit a sweater in the round! You'll learn to take accurate, basic body measurements, to correctly use a gauge swatch and to pick up stitches. This is a great first sweater project; the new techniques will serve you well for many projects to come. Pattern is included.

    Class Policies

    • Classes must be paid in full at the time of registration in order to hold your spot.
    • All supplies must be purchased before the class.
    • Upon signing up for a class, any changes in attendance must be made three days prior to the start of the class. If you need to cancel a class, we will issue you a store credit for the amount paid. Unfortunately, cancellations made with fewer than three days' notice result in a forfeiture of the registration fee.
    • If you must miss a session of a class, please call in advance to let us know. You may be able to take that session the next time the class is offered, or you can pay for a private lesson to make up the material missed.
    • Classes have minimum enrollments; if these are not met, we reserve the right to cancel classes with 24 hours notice. Refunds for classes we cancel will be given in the method paid.
