This workshop will provide students with a fun and fascinating introduction to the
basic concepts of a range of theories regarding the use of color. Many have
thought color selection is intuitive and unable to be learned. Yet, by combining
simple concepts, a smidge of history and a little fun with colored pencils everyone
can understand and apply both historical and modern color palettes and concepts
in their crafting projects.

What you will learn:
• General color theory and how light alters color perception
• The Albers color theory and the importance of understanding how colors interact with one another
• What color pairings great artists have chosen historically to create stunning palettes
• How to combine colors to generate complimentary pairings in your knitting
• How to select colors to pair with your hair, eyes and/or complexions
• How to include bright colorways in your knitting in ways you will actually wear
• Warm vs. cool color relationships, how to balance them and why
• The beauty of analogous color schemes, creating subtle color palettes with depth and definition
• How to create modern color palettes, and what modern artists practice often but never say

This is what Rowan has to say about their collection and yarn: This beautifully retro collection takes inspiration from the 1970’s and celebrates the season’s key trends for colour. Textured deep vees and off the shoulder boyfriend sweaters all feature in this extremely wearable collection of sping essentials.

Summerspun is a beautiful yarn in a 50% Merino Wool and 50% Cotton blend. The yarn is made by twisting a printed cotton end and a melange wool end together, resulting in a wonderful subtle striping effect. Summerspun is a joy to knit and crochet.

We are now the only shop in San Francisco fully stocked with Malabrigo Arroyo. This soft and squishy yarn comes in many of Malabrigo’s beautiful colors, as well as several new color combinations. Arroyo would be great for clothing, accessories, and baby and children’s garments.

MATERIALS: #8 12” circular needles and dpns or 2nd circular same size
1 sk Lorna’s Laces Angel
Stitch markers
Darning needle
Scissors

GLOSSARY:

sk: skein(s)
st st: stockinette stitch
CO: cast on
Dpns: double points
PM: place marker
K2tog: knit 2 sts together
st(s): stitch(es)
BO: bind off

GAUGE 4 ½ sts/inch in st st

INSTRUCTIONS:

CO 56 sts loosely.
PM and join being careful not to twist.
Knit all rounds until work measures approximately 5” from CO edge.
Decrease rounds (change to dpns or add in 2nd circular when sts become too tight around):
Round 1: *K6, K2tog*.
Round 2: *K5, K2tog*.
Round 3: *K4, K2tog*.
Round 4: *K3, K2tog*.
Round 5: *K2, K2tog*.
Round 6: *K1, K2tog*.
Round 7: *K2tog*.
Round 8: *K2tog*.
Break yarn. Use darning needle to thread through remaining sts.
Weave in all ends.
